The children were playing hide-and-seek outside. You could feel the noise trickling in. It first came to you like a light pin prick, and it gradually mounted to the constant banging at the back of your head. It sounds like an annoyance, right? Actually not. It was pleasant, it was even hope inspiring. That there are people out there who’re enjoying playing games. They enjoy hide-and-seek.
We are mirthless players. We play the same, albeit sophisticated, hide-and-seek. I'll hide something; you unearth the truth about it. I'll veil my life's twists, you get lost in the turns. I'll blanket myself in a deep corner of silence; you catch me with intuition and cunning. We are scared children.
What's the fright all about? Where's this terrible unsurity coming from? Why are we afraid? I've always wondered why do we like the idea of being there and not there, of giving only pieces of the thread. Why do we want someone else to seek us?
I'm a trick
Butterfly,
Come catch
Me if you
Can!
We learnt all the wrong things as we grew up.

playing hard to get, i guess.
Because experience has taught most of us that revealing too much can cause pain...and we are all about avoiding pain. The real "trick" is to "remain always a child." Sometimes this is easier said than done, but we should never stop trying. We must continue to look for those moments when games are fun and life has laughter.
Interesting parallels.
Emotionally powerful.

why do the significant lessons in life elude capture? it's so frustrating. i'm growing up backwards.

:) yeah da piece of thread.
loved this place.
It does make us wonder doesnt it bout how we grow up & yet remain immature. thats become a stsus symbol to remain hidden. strange, that we find pleasure in wat should have actually hurt.
well written as always. Quite a reflective person. u make me realize important lessons.
the woman - Possibly so. Though that occurs most in a very male-female relationship.
stan laurel - Hmm. You put some thought into that. I agree with you about that.
erin - :) Yes..
.:A:. - Thanks.
transience - I comepletely know what are you talking about. I can feel that frustration too. You've put it very well, and succintly.
~Lopamudra~ - Welcome!
Elixir - :) Thank you.
Blackempress - Masochism is the answer, maybe.
I liked how you put it. 'status symbol'. Very true.
"We are mirthless players." Why do we play the game and not even derive pleasure from it?
I agree with Stan and with Empress.
Also this post of yours reminds me of a story on Gabbles..though the context is very different...I think it would be a nice read for you as well. The story's called "Chocolate/Chocolat"It is about a very specific genre of games...
Now for the post in itself--I think some of us play games for the pure thrill of it:)What do you think? It is sometimes the pure adrenaline rush of planning how to have the other person uncover you.And some of us are masters at such games, aren't we?

i dunno.... something stops being sexy abt the rtick butterfly when u have it in ure hand... now is dat society or is dat human psychology? ure guess is as good as mine! ;-)
this existence is a game. i see that everyday and i wonder.
gulnaz - Coz it lacks the original innoncence, I suppose.
Ellipses M - :) Correct. The initial stages of the game is alot of fun. It's quite innocent and rather engaging. Although if it becomes a habit or an ongoing habit, it could be dangerous and unfulfilling.
psychometrix - :) Welcome!
enembius - Sir, how am I to judge? Hehe. I'm not so sure if we are all children lost in the dark. But yeah, when we reveal ourselves we stop being enigmatic and start becoming another normal person. Which cannot be too enchanting ;)
livinghigh - The sexy part is all human psychology. And I have no reason not to agree with you.
Billy - Yes..you can see it everywhere..
