"I tell you, marriage is a practical thing. We need to think about it. It's not the way we imagined it to be some years back. It's a practical thing. No wonder it's called an institution!"
"I agree. Nowadays the youth have these warped notions about marriage. They think it's all about love and romance. But it is not at all that. It's a logical, rational thing and we need to think it out properly."
"Exactly my point. It's a serious matter. We need to look into many other regular aspects that we somehow oversee when in love. It's a very black-and-white thing. Sure love's got a lot to do with it and stuff. But one has to look at the partner as..a life-long room-mate."
"Yes! Ofcourse, I don't agree with the love part. Then again, maybe you are right. You do need some affection to carry on. Still. I think that we need to focus on what is it that we want from the man, who we are and what are our requirements. There cannot be any compromise on that. Actually, one has to look at a man and imagine him 10 years down the line with children and the whole drama and see if that's the man who fits in our picture."
"That's funny. How you call it drama. You're right though. We need to look at a man and see if he's husband material. Check what's our basic needs, can he fulfill them, what's our upbringing like etc etc. It's not like this whole 'I'm in love and I can conquer any problems in marriage with it', right?"
"Yeah. We have to be rational about it. It's not as easy as we once thought. We need to sit down and give it a hard, cold analysis. Many people think that love is the only ingredient. It's not. There's more practicality to it than just that. For god's sake. It's a large chunk of your lifetime you're looking at. It's serious business."
"True.."
We girls!

Very funny! It reminds me of the saying: A man marries a woman in hopes that she remains the same; A woman marries a man for his potential.
It's something like that. Basically, men want women to remain the same and women plan on "changing" men to fit their ideal.
wonderfully entertaining post! i've always been avoidant on the marriage issue, but this is a fresh and funny perspective. i still don't subsribe to it, though. =)
understood to the core.
Fresh perspective. It has always been "we girls" as the romantic ones!
:-)
But one has to look at the partner as..a life-long room-mate.
This line made me burst into laughter... while briskly nodding in agreement. Heeheehee. ^_^
Hehehe...
stan laurel - Coming from the man, you made the woman sound like she's got it twisted in her head! Nowadays the woman's too independent and pre-occupied to bother about changing her husband. Or so I think!
transience - :) Like I do.
Billy - I'm glad. It's something I'm toying with. Let's see how wise will I turn out to be.
.:A:. - Hehe. Well. You know me. I've to make a different hue from two other ends.
Soulless - It's something I quite strongly believe though. It's quite a funny way to imagine, but very true too.
Jax - My friend. We need amalgamations.
the_woman - :)
