Odyssey

i thought the
smokey smell of you
had slipped away
into the
tryst in our time
to come

i had got by
enough to not
feel that sadness envelope
my heart
while i passed by familiar
shops, roads, places, houses, restaurants.
i had regained a
willingness to revisit
and not be haunted with nothing
excepting the sweet taste of
memories

and then
i stilled myself today
with a gasp; a silent roar
surged from within my
tranquil heart

a torrent of your presence
raged through my being
and
i saw the plethora of places
we'd been to
clanking loudly in my
mind's eye.
i could see your serene smile,
your lovely fingers, those quiet
eyes, the ruffled hair..

ah, my love.
i've begun smelling
that smokey smell
of you

smoky smells leave such a distinct impression on the senses. think musk and rumpled sheets and sweet, forsaken love...

Lovely. Smells are a strong awakener of memories. I was just thinking about this 2 days ago and here I am reading your post. The emotion comes out in this one very well.

First of all, tryst: awesome word that is not used enough in writing.

Second, you do a good job of creating a sense of serenity in such chaos and noise. Well done.

Anil - :) I'm happy that it did. Memories are what help many people to keep going on.

transience - Smokey smell's got a lingering effect. It somehow never goes.

AmitKen - Thanks.

Samudraa - Welcome here, glad you liked the blog. :)

Jax - I'm sure it'll pass, when the torrent comes. There's always a quiet after that, right?

.:A:. - It's upon your mention that I realized that the sense of smell is somehow long lasting. It hits hard.

stan laurel - Why does it feel like it's been a long time since I saw you around here?

Thank you for your comment. It meant much to me. You're right about tryst. There's something soft and sensual about that word. Maybe that's why it's not used often - to preserve that quality.

temppixie - Welcome here and I do hope you'll keep coming :)

Sadness has a way of shrouding you, enveloping you, covering you and coating you. I do hope that you won't have to experience it any longer than necessary.

Billy - *bows* I always am honored by the few words you leave on my blog.
