She's been taking me around alot. She's showing me how to survive, basically. She taught me many things till now and I thank her for that. So one day, after a week of me living here, she and I were walking down the road to my place. She was briefing me about this and that while I silently listened with my head down, not looking at anything but my feet. Like this I kept walking..for 2 full mins. I suddenly stopped for I couldn't hear her voice. For a fleeting moment I thought I had gone deaf. Then, sense prevailing over me, I turned around. She laughed at me and said, "You're bad with directions, aren't you? This is where you're house is, silly!"
And I sheepishly grinned and nodded. Yes, I suck at directions.

Her landlady is fun. She's this sweet lady who is so, so funny. I like her.We were chatting over supper one day about India. She loves India, you see. I was talking to her about how vibrant the place is, the lovely colors, the excellent food, the diversity, how different South India is from North India..she was listening, enthralled. She talked alot too. She knew quite a bit about India. She was so full of life when she spoke of how she enjoys watching Hindi movies, the sari, the incense sticks, the elephants..and then she asked me, "Are there snakes slithering across the roads in India?"
And I laughed.

It's great how suddenly you are aware of friends who are there for you and like you and the friends who pretend to be what they are..a friend. I was pleasantly suprised when the people I least expected visited me before I left and now I'm more surprised at the amount of well-wishers that popped out from no where. Thanks to all. Ofcourse, the best of the lot is my friend Smiley. He sent me a picture of his refridgerator..one with the door shut, one with the door open and one with the freezer. He knows how to make me laugh.
And that's why I love him.

Finally. I've discovered that I can, indeed, cook. Not once have I burnt my hands, over steamed my face instead of the rice or put too much salt. I think I've got the famed 'hand' for cooking, passed down from my great grandmother's times. Yay for that. So, I'm now looking for a subject to test my expertise on.
And I'll soon find one, trust me! ;)
(Note: I shall be, as you can see, writing alot about my initial experiences here. I do want to show you glimpses of it and I want to save this for posterity. It'll be fun to read this one year down the line. So bear with me, I'm sure it'll end soon!)
